Are press on nails worth it?

27/08/2021

Hello! It's been a while! So since things have opened up again and we're no longer in lock down or in any sort of restrictions, I thought about a beauty trick I had been using during that time. I wouldn't say I'm high maintenance but I have certain standards to keep up with, for example; my nails! Yes I'm that woman always tapping her phone with acrylics on and if I don't have acrylics they're definitely polished!

Well, throughout lockdown none of the nail salons were open, so I ended up growing the acrylics out and then polishing them myself, but obviously I missed them so much! So I ordered press on nails to wear with glue. I started off by ordering some from ASOS - the Elegant Touch ones that range between £5 and £10, but they seemed to have only lasted a couple of days.

Now there are a few reasons for this, first one being house work. Let's face it, house work never ends, whether it is washing dishes, cooking, cleaning the bathroom, changing the bedding, doing the laundry, just everything! During lockdown (as I've constantly been working from home) I left my household chores to the weekend, and that's when I put them on - should have thought twice about that! Anyway, I bought another set and the same thing happened after a day or two, one would fall off, then you have to glue another one on and that would give you another day. But it was just effort, so I stopped.

When things slowly started opening again I still felt bit cautious about going to a salon, so when I went back to my parents for a few weeks, we did bit of shopping, and of course I went into Primark as they don't allow online shopping (shocking I know!). Anyway I had a look at their nail section, and they had a whole four racks to choose from!

First they came in a range of lengths - long, medium and short, then they came in a range of finishes; matt, gloss, sea glass and ombre and then they came in so many different colours and shapes. Honestly the variety that they had I felt like a kid in a candy shop! And the price, I don't think you're ready for this, guess how much they were! They were a £1!!! Can you believe it, £1 for a set of 24 nails! So I did what any other normal person would do, I stocked up haha! I bought all the medium-long length ones, in all sorts of colours and shapes, and where I was used to spending £25 every two to three weeks on acrylics, I found that I could spend that £25 on twenty five packs of nails, which I still have sitting in my beauty cabinet.

Now I bet you're thinking why did I do this, when the others only lasted a couple of days. So although the glue comes with the packs, I found that there was a stronger glue you could buy separately on amazon, which my sister had previously tested. Again a few pounds depending on if you're buying one bottle or four or six or ten! And with that glue the nails easily last four to five days, with possibly one nail falling off in between, but that could easily be fixed by re-gluing it back on.

Therefore, I'd say press on nails are 100% without a doubt worth it. They last four to five days depending on how careful you are and how much work you do with your hands. Another factor to consider is how much acrylics damage your nails, with stick ons, you sometimes have a little bit of glue on your nails but it washes off and doesn't damage your nail bed. Finally, the price...looking back over the past years and thinking about how much money I've spent on acrylics. I'd rather have a fresh set on weekly that I can do in the comfort of my own home. In a month I could easily spend £50 on nails, where as now I just spend £5. When you put that into perspective over a year that's £600 vs £60.

Now it's up to you, what would you rather do?
